A decade ago we thought that Rugby Union media rights were generally under-sold; in 2014 we had no rugby clients, just a few years later our roster included World Rugby, Premiership Rugby, SANZAR, British & Irish Lions and United Rugby Championship. We were able to ensure that our rugby clients fully maximised the boom in sports rights, growing revenues and distribution on a hitherto unprecedented scale. Our journey in rugby union continues with outstanding rights deals around the world.
The explosion in digital betting since 2020 has created substantial opportunities for horse racing rights owners to maximise their betting and media revenues. Our role is to ensure our clients have a clear understanding of the value of their betting and media rights, and create commercial and sales strategies to fully optimise their values. For Horse Racing Ireland and South African Racing (4Racing) with our partners Frontiers Sports, we identified significant growth potential across our clients' digital and retail betting streams, and PAY TV, which helped drive increases in their revenues.
We have played a key role in the global distribution of media and betting rights for South American football. We worked on multiple editions of Copa America, World Cup Qualifiers and Copa Libertadores, landmark deals include betting with StatsPerform, Copa Lib for Channel 4, WCQ for ITV and Copa America for ESPN and Sky Sports. We have also worked for Premier League clubs Manchester United, Liverpool and West Ham, and for La Liga giants, Real Madrid, for over a decade.
We identified huge potential for UFC in 2001 – 15 years before the rest of the industry caught up. Up to 2016, RDA was responsible for all UFC’s media rights deals in multiple key markets including UK, Scandinavia, Australia and MENA, generating $100m+ in license fees. We have also negotiated significant media rights deals for Bellator.
Wrestling is a multi-billion dollar global business, and we identified substantial potential for a competitor brand to WWE back in 2006 – we spent the next 15 years handling global media rights sales for Impact Wrestling, including the company’s landmark broadcast deals in India, UK, Australia, Japan, France, Italy and MENA, driving over $100m in sales. With ITV, we also co-produced the highly successful World of Sport Wrestling series, and we retained all commercial rights.
When Sky Sports needed an agency for their global rights for Super League, they picked RDA. We’ve spent the last 5 years working extensively in this great sport, culminating in distributing global media rights to the Rugby League World Cup played in England in 2022. We still consistently outperform global rights revenue targets for Super League and we regularly work for Rugby Football League.
The explosion in short-form cricket over the last decade has created multiple new opportunities for rights owners and tournament organizers, and we’ve played a significant role in rights distribution for multiple tournaments played in the Middle East. We have also concluded long term UK broadcast deals for all international matches hosted by Zimbabwe Cricket Union and Afghanistan Cricket Board.
